We wrote to everyone running for council, and to the mayor.

One letter, the same letter, sent to every candidate and sitting councillor on the same day. It asked three things about a $1.16 million transit app contract council never voted on. Everything each of them said back is here.

The three things we asked for

Each reply is read against these three asks and nothing else. A commitment to one is not a commitment to the others, so they are rated separately.

    Support a public review at Transit Commission of the sole-source Transit app contract, including its full cost, term, pricing structure, and performance, before it is extended again.

    Commit to fair, open, competitive processes for rider-facing transit technology going forward.

    Support an open partnership framework so qualified Ottawa-built platforms can integrate with OC Transpo and share crowdsourced data back with the City.

How the clock is counted

The clock starts when delivery is confirmed, not when we press send, because a message sitting in a queue is not a question anybody has been asked. It stops at the first reply written by a person. An automatic out-of-office reply is recorded and stops nothing. A reply from a staff member stops a different clock from a reply written by the person themselves, and the page says which one it was. Calendar days are the headline because riders wait in calendar days; the working-day figure is shown beside it. Statutory holidays are counted as working days, which is a limit of this method rather than a claim about anybody.

Every entry stays open. A reply that arrives months from now is published and the page says it arrived after publication, with both dates.
