Service report: August 2026
One calendar month, at a page that will still say this when you come back to it. Every figure is a count of arrivals observed and settled on the service dates below.
Final
Every day in this month is accounted for. These figures were settled on Sep 7, 2026, 6:29 p.m. and will not change.
Which transit system
OC Transpo and the STO are separate agencies with separate budgets and separate councils. A blended figure cannot be taken to either of them, so each can be read on its own. Both are shown together because the region is one travel market and riders cross it.
The month in short
77.7% of 3,666,299 observed arrivals were within five minutes of the timetable, across 139 routes. The best day was Aug 7 at 90.7% and the worst was Aug 29 at 67.1%. All 12 routes with a finding share one problem: the timetable is short. This is the first month this site can report in full, so there is nothing yet to compare it against.
How the network is doing
Two different failures hide inside one on-time percentage, and they have opposite fixes. These separate them. Each figure is a share of the route-hours this site measured well enough to speak for, and the count it is out of is shown beside it.
Measured over 2,507 route-hours. 154 more were observed too thinly to count, and are excluded rather than assumed good.
Scheduling
Whether the timetable describes the trip that is actually made. A route late by the same amount every day is not unreliable, it is mis-scheduled, and every operator is driving a schedule nobody can keep.
- Who can fix it
- A service planner
- What it costs
- An afternoon of work, and no extra buses.
Timetable matches the trip
81.5%
Hours where the middle arrival is within three minutes late and one minute early of the timetable.
Route-hours where the timetable is short
414of 2,507
Hours where the middle arrival is three minutes late or worse. Each is a candidate for a running-time rewrite.
Route-hours running early
49of 2,507
Hours where buses typically leave early. Riders who arrive on time can still watch one go.
Running time a short hour needs
4min
For a typical short hour, the minutes a planner would add.
Operations
Whether a bad trip is close to a normal one. A route on time on average but wildly variable has a timetable that is right and something else that is not. Padding the schedule here makes every rider’s trip longer while the bad trips stay bad.
- Who can fix it
- Operations, and often the road itself
- What it costs
- Real money, or changes to the street.
A bad trip is close to a normal one
92.6%
Hours where the worst trips run less than twenty minutes behind the normal one.
Route-hours that are unpredictable
185of 2,507
Hours where they run twenty minutes or more behind it. Adding running time does not fix these.
How far behind a bad trip runs
36.8min
For a typical unpredictable hour, how far behind a bad trip runs.

Bars are scaled between 65% and 93%. Weekend days are marked; they carry less service and usually read higher. The thin line under each bar is how much of that day this site actually measured, against the best-measured day of the month. A short line means the percentage above it rests on far less.

What should change
Worked out from this month’s arrivals, ranked by how much service each problem affects. Each line says what is wrong, when, and who can fix it.
The timetable is short
Give the trip more time on the timetable. It is the cheapest fix in transit and needs no extra buses.

Something other than the timetable
This gap is not closed by the timetable. Padding the schedule to cover the worst trips would make every trip longer while the bad ones stayed bad. The cause sits in these hours: traffic, crowding at stops, a rail crossing, or a driver who was not available.

Something other than the timetable, at night
This gap is not closed by the timetable. At this hour it is not congestion: late service runs on few buses, so one vehicle held at a terminal, a driver who did not take the run, or a bus arriving late off its previous trip moves the whole hour. The cause sits with how the last runs of the day are covered.

The routes with the lowest share of on-time arrivals. A low figure does not say whose fault it is: a route can be late because its timetable is wrong, because the service is failing, or because of the traffic it runs in. Each route page separates those.

Measured, but not for enough of the month
These routes ran on fewer than half the days this month was measured. Their arrivals count toward the network figure above, and they are kept out of the rankings because a route present for part of the month is not competing with one that ran all of it.

Trips that did not run
A cancelled trip never arrives, so it can never be late, and a punctuality figure cannot see it at all. Riders experience it as the worst outcome there is, so it is counted separately.

Why there are no trains in this report
Everything on this page is about buses. The O-Train is not counted anywhere in it.
That is not a choice we made. To measure a trip we have to know when the vehicle actually turned up, and OC Transpo publishes that live information for its buses but not for its trains. The train timetable is public. Where the trains actually are is not.
So we can tell you how late a bus was, and we can tell you nothing at all about a train. If OC Transpo published the same live information for the O-Train that it already publishes for buses, every figure on this page would cover the trains too.
