Help for a problem on your trip

Choose what happened. These steps and official contacts work without sharing your location or filing a report.

I lost an item or someone

First decide whether you mean an item or a person.

A person is missing

Person: if a child or vulnerable person is missing or may be in danger, call 911 now. Tell a nearby driver or transit employee. Do not wait for a lost-item form.

An item is missing

Item: note the route, direction, approximate time and a description. Choose the operator’s own lost-item process below. An Otranspo report does not start an operator search.

I am on the wrong bus or missed my stop

Ask the driver about the next safe stop when it is safe to speak.

  1. Stay aboard until a safe place to exit. Do not chase the bus or cross in front of it.
  2. Check your actual stop, route, direction and travel date before planning again. A drop-off between stops is not guaranteed; the operator and driver decide under their rules.

I feel unsafe on transit

If anyone is in immediate danger or a crime is in progress, call 911.

  1. If safe, move toward other people and tell the driver or transit employee. On OC Transpo, use a station emergency phone or onboard Passenger Assistance Alarm if available.
  2. OC Transpo Special Constables: 613-741-2478. For a non-immediate STO service concern, use STO Customer Relations during its published hours. An online report is not an emergency call.

A child or person is still on the vehicle

If the person is unaccounted for or may be in danger, call 911 now.

  1. Tell a nearby driver or transit employee. Give the route, direction, vehicle or stop code if known, time and last-seen place to emergency responders or the operator.
  2. OC Transpo Special Constables and STO Customer Relations are additional contacts. Do not pursue the vehicle or wait for an Otranspo report. Showing a communication card does not call dispatch.

Emergency: Text with 9-1-1

If you are Deaf, hard of hearing or speech-impaired, you can text with 9-1-1. You must register with your wireless carrier first. In an emergency you still dial 9-1-1; the call centre then texts you.

On October 3, 2026, the official Text with 9-1-1 site still listed the service as available across Ontario and Quebec. Canada is moving 9-1-1 to a new network, and this texting service will be replaced. Check the official site before you count on it.

Blind or low vision: Be My Eyes

A free app that connects you by video to a sighted volunteer, for example to read a sign or find a stop pole. Volunteers are not transit staff.
