About otranspo.ca
otranspo.ca is an independent riders’ site for Ottawa and Gatineau. It shows bus and O-Train departures and counts how reliable service is. It is not OC Transpo or STO.
What it measures
The main figure is how often the operator’s own arrival predictions were within five minutes of the timetable. It is counted per route, per stop, per day and per month.
Cancellations are counted separately. A trip marked “Cancelled” is one the operator said it would not run. “Did not come” is a rider’s report. “We did not see this bus” means no data reached us. These are three different things and the site keeps them apart.
OC Transpo publishes no live train positions. For the O-Train the site can only repeat what OC Transpo posts, and what riders report.
Who runs it
One independent citizen in Ottawa–Gatineau owns and runs the site, and has the final say over what it publishes. No transit agency, city, donor or provider chooses what is measured or published. The independence page names who that is.
How it is paid for
The person who runs the site pays the running costs. Riders can donate. A donation buys no access and no say over what is published. There is no advertising, and rider data is not sold. The running costs are published.
What it is not
- It is not OC Transpo, STO or the City of Ottawa, and speaks for none of them.
- It does not sell tickets, plan Para Transpo trips or take complaints for the operators.
- It does not sell rider data or show advertising.
- It does not guess. When data is missing, the page says so.
Data sources and credit
Schedules, live predictions and alerts come from OC Transpo and STO open data. Maps use OpenStreetMap. Each source keeps its own terms.
