Every scheduled bus trip ends one of four ways. A trip that never came counts as a miss.

Cancellations
1,317 trips were marked cancelled. Route 5 had the most.
Archive coverage: 27 of 28 days1,934 taken-back notices not counted9 days partly captured
Day by day
Cancelled trips each service day, oldest first. Weekend days in gold; days we could not check are hatched, not zero.
What stands out
Route 5 had 65 of them (5%). The worst day was Fri, Oct 16, with 95. Most were scheduled to start around 5 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Routes with the most
What counts as cancelled
A scheduled trip the operator marked cancelled, with no later sighting of a bus running it in our archive. It does not prove the trip never ran. Days with no records are shown as missing, not as zero.
OC Transpo publishes reasons only as weekly totals for the whole network, not per trip. They are shown on the explainer page, kept apart from these counts. See OC Transpo’s reasons

OC Transpo
Service days Tue, Oct 6 to Mon, Nov 2. Today is not included until it ends.
- Scheduled trips with cancellation notices
- 1,170
- Scheduled trips marked cancelled without qualifying later matching vehicle observations in our archive. This does not prove the trip did not operate.
- On a typical day
- 40.5
- Worst day
- 93
- Fri, Oct 16
- Trips with retained notices
- 3,982
- Distinct trips with a notice still retained in our records for this period, including trips with later matching vehicle observations. We have not verified that retained records include every notice. This is not a count of cancelled trips.
Not counted: 1,903 trips with qualifying later matching vehicle observations and 534 for trips not in that day’s timetable. 2 partial-capture days not counted.
By day
The dark bar is the number classified by the assessment. “Unknown” means the assessment could not classify that day; it does not mean no notices were retained. The light bar shows trips with notices still in our records. Record completeness is unverified, and a notice alone does not establish a cancellation. A day marked “partly captured” is unknown too: we missed most bus positions that day, so we cannot reliably check later vehicle observations.

Routes with the most cancellations
Counted cancellations per route over the four weeks. Busy routes run more trips, so they can have more cancellations.

A bus can run with its tracker off, or logged on the wrong trip. So a trip here may have run. It needs checking. It is not proof. Trains are not included: OC Transpo publishes no train positions.
How these numbers are made
- Source: retained cancellation notices from OC Transpo’s and STO’s live trip data, kept as published. We have not verified that every notice was captured.
- A notice counts only when the trip was in a published timetable for that day and no matching vehicle observations spanned ten minutes or more relative to the first notice. This does not prove that the trip did not operate.
- When the operator renumbers its trips, the notice and the bus can use different numbers for the same trip. A bus on the same route, in the same direction, with the same scheduled start, counts as that trip.
- A trip counts once, even if it had several notices.
- A day with no checkable notice is unknown. The feed may have been down.
- A day when we missed most bus positions is unknown too. Without them we cannot reliably check qualifying later vehicle observations.
- Hours come from the timetable’s scheduled start for the trip.
